As department chair of the High School Fine and Performing Arts Department, I collaborated with my team to create a sequence based program for students enrolled in the arts. The program begins with the end in mind - the Curriculum Design. In order to achieve these big ideas, "Bridges to Achievment" was created. With the knowledge taught in the fundamental classes and the 21st Century skills learned through the translators (the arts), GCCS is able to achieve their big ideas stated in the curriculum design. To ensure all students are provided a high level arts education, the high school sequencing program was created. Students are identified in middle school for a certain path. Based on student interest, teacher recommendation, and student audition/portfolio review, students are sequenced into a program.
