​Project Based Learning

​

During the spring of 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic forced schools to close, Global Concepts Charter High School embarked on a school wide, cross curricular Project Based Learning initiative. Students researched different historical pandemics through the lenses of different subjects.

​

Part I: Complete the response sections for all three directives.  Based on the research you have done for your assigned pandemic, answer the following questions.

Directive 1: What was the role of music during the researched pandemic?

How did the pandemic you researched affect performing musicians? 

How did musicians share and perform their music during the pandemic you researched? 

How did people listen to music during the pandemic you researched?

How was music portrayed during the pandemic you researched? Helpful, therapeutic, controversial, ect. and why? 

In what ways have people used music to express their values and describe their experiences?

 

Directive 2: What is the role of music during the current COVID 19 pandemic?

How is the COVID 19 Coronavirus affecting performing musicians? How have musicians changed the way they perform?

How has technology affected the music? 

Does a performance have to be public to be meaningful? 

What makes a significant and meaningful performance?

How is music being portrayed during the pandemic? Helpful, therapeutic, controversial, ect. and why?

Directive 3: How does music affect you during the COVID 19 pandemic? 

How are you listening and sharing music?

Why is music such an integral part of the human experience?

What music have you created, practiced or performed during the COVID 19 pandemic and how has it affected you?

How did music affect you emotionally during the COVID 19 pandemic?

PART II: 

 

Options for how to show your finished product

Realistic

  • Create a poster expressing the effects of music during your researched pandemic and the current COVID 19 pandemic.

Investigative

  • Write a 5 paragraph essay discussing the effects of music during your researched pandemic and the current COVID 19 pandemic.

Social

  • Make a pamphlet or brochure

  • Write a newspaper article

  • Write a text message dialogue 

Conventional

  • Create a presentation (google slides or Prezi) showing how your researched pandemic and the current COVID 19 pandemic affect multiple aspects of music in society.

PART III: 

Artistic

  • Podcast (with pre-recorded  sounds, loops, and effects) 

    • **Recommended for Music Composition Class

    • Students in a performing ensemble are to add personal recordings to podcast. 

    • See instruction video on how to do a podcast

  • Perform a piece of music (3c). Record it as a video or audio file

    • Can be an original piece or something you’ve been practicing during the “PAUSE”

  • Write a song parody

    • See instruction video on how to do a song parody

  • Make a short documentary film

    • Students in performing ensemble are to add personal recordings
